Soul Music Wednesday

Hey Lovelies,

Happy Humpday Everyone! As some of you may know, it is Soul Music Wednesday! I truly believe soul music provides a spiritual experience for both the listener and vocalist alike. On Wednesdays, I like to share a featured love song and give my feedback on the record. Some of the songs will be old classics and others will be new favorites.

The song featured today is “Pretty Wings” by Maxwell. The song was written and produced by Maxwell and Hod David, and released in April of 2009. Here is a link to the song below…

“Pretty Wings” was featured on Maxwell’s platinum album, BLACKsummers’night. The song won a Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, and garnered two other nominations. The song was certified Gold, selling over 500,000 copies and reached number one on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Maxwell described the song as “a bittersweet love song about meeting the right girl at the wrong time”.

Timing is so important in relationships. Sometimes you can meet someone who seems to be the perfect individual for you, however, if the timing is not right in your life to receive this person, then the relationship may not work out. This is not to say that it cannot work out later in the future, but it is just the wrong moment in time to be together. Some may say if it is true love then nothing will keep you away from that person, however, life is not always so simple. The song speaks of “letting love set you free to fly your pretty wings around”. One of the most loving things you can do for someone is to let them go, in knowing you cannot provide for them in the way they deserve. Maxwell soulfully sings of the sacrifice it takes to let go of love for the betterment of that person, as painful as it may be. “Pretty Wings” is still one of my favorite songs to this day, and will definitely be considered a classic for many more years to come.

With Love,
Miss T
