Soul Music Wednesday

Hey Lovelies,

Happy Humpday Everyone! As some of you may know, it is Soul Music Wednesday! I truly believe soul music provides a spiritual experience for both the listener and vocalist alike. On Wednesdays, I like to share a featured love song and give my feedback on the record. Some of the songs will be old classics and others will be new favorites.

The song featured today is “All of Me” by the super talented, John Legend. The song was written by John Stephens and Toby Gad and produced by Dave Tozer and John Legend. It was released in August of 2013. Here is a link to the song below…

Despite being a soft ballad, “All of Me” garnered huge success on both the Pop and R&b charts. The song peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, becoming Legend’s first single to do so in the United States. The single became the second best-selling song of 2014 and to date has sold over twelve million copies worldwide. Even today, “All of Me” is still in the top ten of the iTunes R&b charts, over four years since the song’s initial release.

“All of Me” was dedicated to Legend’s wife, Chrissy Teigen, his then fiance at the time of the song’s release. Teigen was even featured in the music video for the song, which has garnered over one billion views on YouTube. “All of Me” is a song about dedicating your entire self to someone. It is the perspective of a man who is willing to love all aspects of the woman in his life, flaws and all. The song seemed to be a lyrical host of wedding vows, as he promises to stick by her side through all obstacles. “All of Me” is a beautiful ode from a man that truly loves his woman. I admire John Legend’s honesty and transparency. Sometimes, people feel as though it is “not cool” for a man to openly and publicly express the love he has for his lady, but that mindset couldn’t be further from the truth in my opinion. It is important to tell those we love our feelings while we can because tomorrow is never promised. If it is up to me, “All of Me” will definitely go down as one of the greatest love songs ever created.

With Love,
Miss T
