Soul Music Wednesday

Hey Lovelies!

Happy Humpday Everyone! As some of you may know, it is Soul Music Wednesday! I truly believe soul music provides a spiritual experience for both the listener and vocalist alike. On Wednesdays, I like to share a featured love song and give my feedback on the record. Some of the songs will be old classics and others will be new favorites.

The song featured today is “We Are Family”, sung by r&b girl group Sister Sledge. The song was written and produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. “We Are Family” was released in April of 1979 and featured on the album We Are Family. Here is a link to the song is below…

“We Are Family” was a huge success and was certified Gold by the RIAA selling over 500,000 copies in the US alone. The song reached number one on the Billboard R&B charts and number two on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts as well. Billboard also listed the song at #20 on their list of 100 Greatest Girl Group Songs of All Time. “We Are Family is definitely a classic at every black family reunion or cookout. It is an anthem to celebrate your family and promote fun and good times. I love the message of the record as I deeply love my family and always enjoy the time I get to spend with my loved ones.

Perhaps the most important relationship one has in life is with his or her family. Romances and friendships can come and go, but oftentimes your close family members are a constant. The relationship with one’s siblings especially, such as the Sledge Sisters sang in the song, is one to be cherished. Brothers and sisters can be some of the greatest friends and confidants in the world, but unfortunately some do struggle to build an authentic bond. Good siblings are there for each other through thick and thin and will provide a helping hand when called upon. They are loving, caring, and welcoming. I personally have a great relationship with my older brother and can’t imagine my life without him. Having a loving family is a blessing, and while fighting and disagreement does occur, your family can be your greatest support system in life.

With Love,
Miss T
